Bright yellow flowers are borne at the base of the stem. The plant is cultivated spasmodically in N. Nigeria for the seeds, which are threaded and used as beads. Edible Uses The root is used in cooking soup when oil is not available. A reddish powder obtained from the dried and crushed root is used to colour soups and sauces in the same way as the root of Cochlospermum tinctorium, It is used to colour shea butter and cooking oil to which it possibly also imparts some flavour.
